Hawthorn speedster Isaac Smith appears to still be in serious doubt for Friday night's qualifying final against West Coast in Perth after failing to take part in the Hawks' main training session on Tuesday.

MATCH PREVIEW: Eagles v Hawks

Smith completed some stationary handball drills and walked two laps before heading to the Hawks' medical tent while his teammates trained at Waverley.

The gun wingman didn't have any strapping on his left knee, which he damaged in a tackle during the third quarter against Carlton on Saturday, but was moving gingerly.

Meanwhile, another pacy midfielder Bradley Hill and youngster Daniel Howe left the track early after only taking part in stationary skills drills.

Veteran defender Grant Birchall arrived late on the track and didn't join the main session in the first 20 minutes before training was closed to media, but he completed some straight-line jogging and kicking.

In a good sign, Cyril Rioli looks set to return from a bout of gastro after he took part in the main session.

Skipper Luke Hodge (suspension) and small forward Luke Breust (rested) also trained with the main squad.
