More than 30 high school-aged members tested their skills alongside West Coast’s best during the annual Eagles Rising Stars training day on April 11.

Ruckman Jonathan Giles, first-pick 2016 draftee Daniel Venables, defender Jackson Nelson, utility Malcolm Karpany, second-year defender Tom Cole, Category B Rookies Francis Watson and Tarir Bayok, developing stopper Josh Rotham, rookie-listed midfielder Jordan Snadden, promising goal sneak Willie Rioli, rookie backman Tom Gorter and father-son recruit Jake Waterman put the teens through their paces as they completed a variety of development drills on Kitchener Park.

After perfecting their goal kicking, overhead marking and handballing accuracy, the Rising Stars participated in a game of dodgeball before heading into the club’s football facilities for lunch.

The players used the quiet time to discuss the various ways they came to the club, their training regimen and recovery requirement before they were ushered off to a team meeting.

But the players’ departure didn’t signal the end of the Rising Stars’ day. The group later embarked on a tour of the club’s inner sanctum, which included an inspection of West Coast’s pool and gym facilities, lecture theatre, warm-up room and a run up the race onto Domain Stadium hallowed turf.

The club would like to thank all of its Eagles Rising Stars who attended the training session. We look forward to seeing them again for their second event of 2017 in the July school holidays.
