Fresh off the back of a thrilling win against the Saints on Sunday, the West Coast Eagles paid a very special visit to budding young footballers on Monday for the WA Multicultural Carnival.

After recovering from the match that saw the team maintain its top spot on the AFL ladder for another week, the entire West Coast squad attended Brownes Stadium for the event, which encourages new players from all backgrounds and skill levels to participate in Australian football.

Headed by West Coast’s ruckman and AFL multicultural ambassador Nic Naitanui, the players attended the gala day to conduct football coaching clinics with more than 500 young multicultural students.

“It’s a really great initiative by the AFL,” said Naitanui.

“I’m one of 10 AFL multicultural ambassadors - Leigh Montagna, Harry O’Brien, Israel Folau, Karmichael Hunt, Majak Daw, Ahmed Saad, Bachar Houli, Joel Wilkinson, David Rodan and myself. We all have different opportunities and responsibilities as ambassadors, today is great opportunity for us.”

The star ruckman, originally from Fiji, was named as an AFL multicultural ambassador at the beginning of the season, and has been working with the West Australian Football Commission on their multicultural strategy, talent academies and international development programs.
