West Coast Eagles defender Xavier Ellis says his team is improving every week and as each game comes they’re making fewer mistakes.

Speaking to Eagle Eye TV following his side’s thrilling three point win over the Gold Coast Suns, Ellis admitted he was nervous during the tense last quarter, but proud to see the boys respond and get the win.

“Anytime you give up a 40-point lead, when Lynch takes that big mark and pops it through, I was very nervous,” Ellis said.

“To the boy’s credit, it’s a very positive and confidence boosting win to come from behind, we’ve lost a couple of close games this year.

“I think we’ve lost three where we’ve been up at three-quarter time, bad things come in threes so I was confident we were going to get that one.

“Simmo’s game plan has only been implemented for six months, along the way we’ve made some bad decisions in games that we’ve lost in really close games.

“Every game review we’re learning, so were slowly and surely making less mistakes.”

The Eagles midfield was dominant in the first three quarters at the weekend, and Ellis believes getting the connection right between the midfielders and the forwards was the key to success.

“We’ve got ‘Nic Nat’ who’s an absolutely elite ruckman and gave great service,” he said.

“We’ve got Priddis in there who I think is an absolutely underrated player in the competition, he’s as good as it gets in the middle.

“The service inside 50, when we get it in quick, you’ve got Kennedy, LeCras, Darling and Cripps getting to their feet, so any team would be scared if we get quick service into those guys.”
