HBF Health Fit Fan Frank Lane has never been particularly active. But as his age has edged higher, so has his weight, and being aware of the risk of diabetes in those who are overweight he is keen to make a change.

And that he has – from no longer taking the lift to his desk on the fourth floor and taking the stairs, to refusing to go to bed until he’s made the recommended 10,000 steps a day, Frank has doubled his level of physical activity. “The first couple of days that I wore the Fitbit, I just went about my days as normal, and saw that on average I was only walking around 4,000 steps. Now, whether it’s that extra lap around the block or more of a willingness to go shopping with my wife, I make sure I reach my 10,000 steps a day goal each and every day,” says Frank.

With three grandchildren to play with and another on the way, Frank has a great incentive to improve his fitness over the 22 week competition, as he wants to make sure he’s an active grandparent. In fact, despite the lure of the Grand Final, it’s this that keeps Frank going. “I’d love to win the Grand Final trip – but even if I don’t, I still think I’m a winner. Making a positive change that lasts for the long term and allows me to be healthy for my family will always come first for me.”
