Can you believe it is round 14 already? Where has the year gone? I guess time flies when you’ve spent the majority of the season at the top of the ladder. Yeah, that’s right. ‘Cos that’s how we roll.

I know what you’re all saying though - Rick, don’t remind us! Don’t mention the good ol’ days when we sat atop the AFL ladder! We’ve been knocked off the top, don’t remind us of the times that once were!

Yes it is true. Last weekend we had the number one spot ripped away from us. That was pretty rude of you, Collingwood. Give us back our spot. I don’t know how they raise out there in Pie-land, but over here in the west, you don’t just steal from people.

In all seriousness though kids, even though we got bumped from top spot, I am still pretty impressed with our boys’ efforts. Considering the footy world thought the Pies would demolish us and then scatter our ashes over the MCG, I think we put up one heck of a fight. To fall short by only three points was a testament to the dedication, relentlessness and character of our mighty team. Well done boys! Even though I would have preferred a victory, I’m still proud of you all and will still be your friend.

So this week we have the Gold Coast Suns at home. The poor Suns haven’t won a game yet this season. I feel a bit bad for them! I can’t help thinking of times when we were a struggling side, hovering around the bottom of the ladder. You’ve got to empathise with the Gold Coast. Gosh, I’m such a compassionate bird….

But there is no room for compassion on the footy field! You know what there is room for? Winning. And that’s what we’re going to do this Saturday. We’re still without Adam Selwood and Will Schofield due to their injuries, but our squad this weekend looks pretty darn impressive. The only change that has been made to the team that almost beat Collingwood is Tom Swift being omitted to make way for young debutant Murray Newman. Young Muzza was drafted from Swan Districts last year, and is impressing so much that he’s been named in Saturday’s squad. Well done bro.

So Saturday night, I predict the boys will be desperate to defeat the Suns after last week. After coming so close to a win that we could almost taste it, we’re going to be extra-hungry for a hit of victory this weekend.

My tip is West Coast by 30 points. See you all at the game, and go Eagles!

Love Rick
