The 2010 Eagles Cup competition wrapped up on Monday with the West Coast Eagles playing squad divided up and sent to all parts of the Perth metro area to congratulate the winning teams and present them with their trophies.

Almost the entire Eagles list including stars Mark LeCras, Nic Naitanui and Josh Kennedy paid a visit to winning primary schools to meet the excited students and present them with their prize.

Despite the majority of presentations going smoothly, a rarely forgetful Will Schofield made the trip out to Greenwood Primary School without the prized possession - the trophy! He returned on Wednesday to deliver the prize personally.

Eagles Cup, proudly supported by West Coast’s principal community partner BHP Billiton Iron Ore, is Western Australia’s premier primary inter-school competition for year five to seven students.

Using modified rules to allow for maximum participation, enjoyment and skill development, emphasis for the program is placed heavily on fun and sportsmanship.

Presenting Karrinyup Primary with their trophy, West Coast’s dynamic goal kicking machine LeCras said Eagles Cup was a great way for all kids to get involved in AFL.

“It’s great to see all the kids playing footy and really enjoying it.

“The modified rules allows everyone to participate and have fun with their friends while at the same time develop their footy skills,’ he said.

Kindly providing all participating schools with the equipment and resources necessary to successfully run the program, BHP Billiton Iron Ore continues to demonstrate its support for the development of the game at the grassroots levels.

Eagles Cup becomes more popular every year with more than 12,000 primary school students competing. This year, an astounding 524 primary schools participated in the competition from all parts of Western Australia, from the Kimberleys to the Great Southern to the Goldfields.
