Other Charitable Endeavours

As well as fundraising for our charity partners, the West Coast Eagles also aims to help other charity groups and causes, such as Princess Margaret Hospital, The Luke Adams Foundation, Centre for Cerebral Palsy, Movember, National Tree Day and SIDS For Kids WA.

Princess Margaret Hospital

Throughout the season, West Coast Eagles players visit the brave children who at patients are Princess Margaret Hospital. Over the past few years it has also become club tradition for players to attend the PMH Patient Christmas Party at the end of the year. West Coast star Mark Nicoski is the club’s ambassador for PMH.

“I’m not a parent, but I’m an uncle to a couple of young kids and if anything were to happen, you’d want them to be treated and looked after as best as possible,” Nicoski said.

“It’s not always just about playing football. We’ve got an opportunity to have an impact on a lot of other people and this is just one aspect of that. It’s always great to get up to PMH and spend a little bit of time with the kids.”

The Luke Adams Foundation

In 2011, the West Coast Eagles squad showed their support for young Swan Districts footballer Luke Adams who suffered life-threatening head injuries after an altercation in Northbridge in May 2011. The team donned white arm bands at training to help raise awareness for the Luke Adams Foundation and their ‘Enough is Enough’ campaign, aimed at eliminating violence in the community.

In addition, the run-through banner for round 16’s match against Geelong featured the statement: 'West Coast Eagles supporters say NO to violence in support of The Luke Adams Foundation', as a show of solidarity in encouraging all members of the community to show respect and take responsibility for their actions. SIDS for Kids WA

In 2012 the West Coast Eagles are proud to support the inaugural SIDS For Kids Sunshine Beach Run event. The Sunshine Beach Run, which aims to assist those who have been tragically affected by Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, is an initiative of West Coast Eagles physiotherapist Chris Perkin in memory of his unborn baby Jake and wife Cindy who passed away in 2009.

The event, held at City Beach on February 12, will see the West Coast Eagles squad take some time out from pre-season training to support this worthy cause. SIDS and Kids WA supports grieving families through bereavement counselling services following the loss of a child from miscarriage, stillbirth, sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), accidents or illness up until the age of two years old. For more information head to www.sunshinebeachrun.com.au.

Centre for Cerebral Palsy

West Coast star forwards Quinten Lynch and Jack Darling helped kick off the 2011 Cerebral Palsy Awareness Week, meeting with avid Eagles fan and Centre for Cerebral Palsy patient, Val.

Val took the spotlight as one of this year’s CP Week stars - people with cerebral palsy who are also achievers. Not only has Val overcome speech and mobility difficulties to lead an independent life, but she also has sporting aspirations of her own, being assistant coach to the Coolbinia Bombers Junior Football Club.

Movember

Each year West Coast Eagles players proudly support Movember, helping to raise awareness of men’s health issues such as prostate cancer and depression in men.

Since its inception as a formal charity in 2004, Movember has raised over $30 million globally, significantly increased awareness of prostate cancer and depression in the community, and is continuously working to change the attitude men have about their health.

National Tree Day

Every year, West Coast stars roll up their sleeves and get their hands dirty, planting trees at a lucky Perth primary school for National Tree Day.

Students at the chosen school, who are winners of a competition run by Toyota WA, get to plant trees alongside their favourite footballing heroes.

The day is an initiative of Planet Ark which encourages kids across the country to come together and plant trees to repair, revegetate and restore Australia’s landscape.
