Cancer Council Western Australia

The West Coast Eagles are proud supporters of the Cancer Council Western Australia and every year we help to raise funds for this worthy cause. We have formed a special bond with the Cancer Council WA, fostered by our desire to have an impact in the fight against one of the nation’s most prevalent diseases that touches so many Western Australians every year.

Dig Deep Day

The club’s biggest fundraising initiative for the Cancer Council Western Australia is the annual “Dig Deep” campaign which runs from the beginning of June to mid July. The Dig Deep promotion sees the West Coast Eagles produce a merchandise item with proceeds going to the Cancer Council.

As a part of this campaign, the West Coast Eagles dedicate a home fixture to the Cancer Council dubbed Dig Deep Day. This match day sees players, staff and volunteers selling merchandise and raising awareness of Cancer Council WA and their fight against our nation’s biggest killer.

The West Coast Eagles also produce a Dig Deep fundraising item each year for fans to purchase, with all proceeds going straight to the Cancer Council WA.

Each year West Coast Eagle and Cancer Council WA ambassador Beau Waters urges West Coast fans to join him and get behind the campaign.

All the money raised from the Dig Deep campaign helps provide support for Western Australian cancer patients, including the Cancer Council’s Crawford and Milroy Lodges, which provide accommodation for country cancer patients who need to stay in Perth during their treatment.

Through the generosity of our loyal supporters, we have raised more than $700,000 since our partnership began in 2005.

West Coast Eagles Cancer Council Ambassador

Beau Waters has been the Cancer Council Western Australia ambassador for several years and since his involvement has formed a unique relationship with young cancer survivor Chloe Cutts.

Chloe and Beau met at the 2007 launch of the Dig Deep campaign and their bond has extended to becoming close friends.

Beau has been the proud face of the Dig Deep campaign since the club formed its relationship with the Cancer Council WA, and continually demonstrates his desire for a cancer free future for all.

Me No Hair

Every year, the West Coast Eagles support the Me No Hair campaign by raising money and shaving the heads of players and staff.

The 2011 Me No Hair campaign saw the Eagles team up with West Coast Fever Netball Club to raise even greater awareness for the campaign.

West Coast players Daniel Kerr, Beau Waters, Josh Kennedy, Sam Butler, Ashley Smith and Ashton Hams coloured or shaved their hair alongside players from West Coast Fever.

Girls Night In

In 2011, the wives and girlfriends of West Coast Eagles players enjoyed a Girls Night In to raise funds for one of the club’s charity partners, Cancer Council Western Australia.

Girls Night In, an event run by Cancer Council to raise funds for women’s cancers, calls on women to stay in during October, with every dollar they save donated to Cancer Council to support newly diagnosed patients and fund research into the causes of women’s cancers.

Each year the Cancer Council WA hopes to raise more than $400,000 from the event to help the 17,000 women diagnosed with breast or gynaecological cancer in Australia each year.
