For more than 12 years, the West Coast Eagles and BHP have been working together to improve the lives of young Western Australians.

Kicking Goals, a specially designed program developed to help high school students from the Pilbara Region reach their potential by inspiring and incentivising them to work hard at school, has been the organisations’ main vehicle for change.

Delivered in partnership with Swan Districts Football Club, Kicking Goals is among Australia’s largest regional-based AFL mentoring programs.

A recent Kicking Goals success story is Anggun Effendy, who wholeheartedly embraced the program, completed her Year 12 studies and is now in the final stages of completing a physiotherapy degree at Curtin University.

Anggun has also pursued success away from the lecture theatres while working part-time in the sports industry, helping young female footballers reach their true potential.

She said the Kicking Goals program changed her outlook on life.

“The Kicking Goals program is not just about football and it helped me so much to decide what I wanted to do with the rest of my life,” she said.
