Telethon has been an official charity partner of the West Coast Eagles since 2008, during which time the club has helped raise more than $400,000 for the charity, with all proceeds going towards improving the lives of WA’s sick and injured kids. Every year the club hosts the Chris Mainwaring Legends Match for Telethon, and also dedicates a home match to raising funds for Telethon.

Chris Mainwaring Legends Match

The West Coast Eagles and Telethon formed an official partnership in 2008 and every year the Chris Mainwaring Tribute Match has been a way for all West Coast members, supporters and former team mates to not only remember club legend Chris Mainwaring but also help to raise vital funds for the children's charity.

Everyone from past football legends, Australian celebrities and Mainwaring family members lace up their boots in the name of Telethon for the ever-entertaining match.

In 2011, Perth footy fans were in for a real treat with AFL powerhouse club Collingwood putting together a star-studded team of past greats for the very first time to take on legends from the West Coast Eagles.

The Magpie greats who came on board for the match included Anthony Rocca, Damien Monkhurst and Tony Francis. They were joined by ‘Packed To The Rafters’ star George Houvardas and Peter Rowesthorne from ‘Kath & Kim’. The 2011 match saw 24,000 descend on Patersons Stadium to see the past greats go head to head.

The Chris Mainwaring Legends Match also includes the highly-entertaining charity mascot race, which will sees Eagles mascot Rick The Rock Eagle take on Telethon mascot Fat Cat, among others, in a race across Patersons Stadium.

Telethon Match Day

In addition to the Mainy Match, the Eagles support for charity partner Telethon went to new heights in 2010 with the club increasing its fundraising efforts by also dedicating a home fixture entirely to raising funds for the charity organisation.

It was the first time an Eagles home fixture has been dedicated to raising funds for Telethon and was supported by a three-week television commercial on Channel Seven involving Eagles stars Matt Priddis, Daniel Kerr and Nic Naitanui.

After the success of the Telethon Match Day in 2010, the club hosted another in 2011, where West Coast fans showed just how generous they are, helping raise a record amount for WA’s sick and injured kids.
