The West Coast Eagles, together with principal community partner BHP Billiton, offer Western Australian high schools the opportunity to take part in our Indigenous Leadership Program. The program is targeted at Indigenous students from years eight to 10 and is a six-session values-based leadership program, focusing on promoting the ‘Five Rs’ value system: respect yourself, respect others, respect your environment, reach out into your community and reach your potential.
This program is delivered by presenters from the West Coast Eagles' schools and community team and the club's Indigenous liaison officer, Phil Narkle, in partnership with mentors from the David Wirrpanda Foundation. It is an interactive education-through-sport program aims to equip participants with valuable life skills and deliver positive health, lifestyle and educational messages.
The Indigenous Leadership Program is comprised of six sessions, with all sessions held at the participating school.
The first five weeks are based on content directly related to the ‘Five Rs’ with the sixth week being set aside as a reward to students for participation and contribution during the program. The reward is a tour of the West Coast Eagles facilities.
The content covered in the West Coast Eagles Indigenous Leadership Program also makes it suitable to run as part of your school’s health program.
