Tough on-baller Koby Stevens was the stand-out performer among the West Coast Eagles players who dropped back to play in the final round of WAFL pre-season games at the weekend.

The gritty midfielder racked up 26 possessions and five tackles in a commanding display for East Fremantle, ensuring he remains on the match committee’s radar for the round one clash with North Melbourne at Paterson’s Stadium on Sunday, March 27.

The second year talent his impressed with his inside skills in his five senior matches in his debut season and was also under notice in the first two rounds of the NAB Cup.

In addition to Stevens, father-son listing Jacob Brennan was under notice off half-back for the Sharks, where he managed the balance the defensive requirements with strong rebounding run.

A cluster of West Coast players impressed for the Tigers, with another exciting midfield display. Tom Swift worked hard through the middle, his tackling was efficient and he provided important touch.

Rookie forward Anton Hamp continues to develop, kicking four goals from his 11 possessions and five marks. Jeremy McGovern was strong in attack for the Tigers, particularly in the first half, where he also raked in five marks, a couple of them under heavy pressure from the opposition.

Gerrick Weedon and Lewis Broome each contributed two goals, but almost as importantly, racked up 14 tackles between them, ensuring the opposition defence was constantly under rebounding pressure.

Peel pair Jordan Jones and Blayne Wilson did not impact the game as they would have desired against West Perth at Harvey, but will continue to work as they strive for peak form.

The WAFL season opens this weekend, with just two games. Swan Districts will host East Perth at Steel Blue Oval, while East Fremantle will confront Claremont at East Fremantle Oval. The other five clubs will have a bye.
