West Coast defender Will Schofield has used the first few weeks of pre-season to bulk up in preparation for the team’s 2015 campaign.

With coach Adam Simpson encouraging a number of players to increase their size, Schofield has added four kilos to his frame to better battle some of his bigger competitors.

“I was probably playing a little bit under what I needed to play at,” Schofield said.

“With players coming into pre-season at any club, you want to get fitter, you want to get stronger, and definitely some of the younger boys are looking a bit bigger which is good.

“Unless you’re built like an Eric Mackenzie, which I’m not and I don’t pretend to play like him either, you do notice it on the big guys, like the Travis Clokes and the [Jay] Schulzes, it’s always better to be a few kilos heavier.”

Heading into the 2015 season, Schofield revealed the Eagles are ready to unleash another secret weapon.

Having missed the past two seasons due to a serious shoulder injury, Beau Waters is poised to return to the field.

The 28-year-old has been training strongly and Schofield is looking forward to seeing his teammate back in action.

“He’s probably worked harder than anyone I know in the AFL, to be honest,” Schofield said.

“He’s missed two years coming off that All-Australian year. He’s going to be our wildcard, I think.”
