He kicked one of the iconic goals in grand final history and emerging midfielder Dom Sheed will get the opportunity to build on the legend after extending his contract with the West Coast Eagles.
Sheed converted a tight set shot with minutes to play in the 2018 grand final against Collingwood that propelled the Eagles to the lead and ultimately was the match-winner.
He had already played a significant role in what would become a pulsating five-point victory, but that kick was remarkable given the pressure of the occasion and the match circumstances. And now he has inked a new deal, meaning he has committed to the club for at least the next three years.
“Obviously I have signed on for another two years and it was a very easy decision, coming off a successful year for the footy club in 2018,” said Sheed, a loping left-footer whose back end of the season was outstanding.
“It was an easy decision, but it’s good to hang around for another couple of years.”
Sheed, who tied with Jack Redden for the player of the 2018 finals series, has enjoyed a strong pre-season that should provide a solid foundation for his 2019 campaign as he looks to build on an impressive 75-game career.
“It has just been trying to get in a full pre-season and be as consistent as I can so I can hopefully translate that in to the season,” he said. “Not much has changed, but getting out of bed to go to training is always a bit easier coming off as flag.
“I have been here for the past five years, so it would be nice to hang around for another five and potentially be a one club player. I grew up barracking for West Coast as a child so it would be good to hang around for another few years.”
