Kerr confirmed as new No.1 ticket holder

Samantha Kerr will be the West Coast Eagles’ No.1 ticket holder for the next two years

Newly-appointed Matilda’s captain Samantha Kerr, arguably the best female soccer player in the world, received another glowing personal honour when she was announced as the West Coast Eagles’ No.1 ticket holder for the next two years.

Fresh from leading the Matilda’s to claim another piece of silverware overnight, beating Argentina 3-0 to win the Cup of Nations, Kerr was named West Coast’s No.1 Ticketholder at today’s season launch.

The younger sister of champion Eagles midfielder Daniel Kerr, a key figure in the 2006 premiership team, Sam Kerr has earned a string of outstanding individual plaudits in recent times.

The 2018 Young Australian of the Year and dual West Australian Sports Star of the Year – winning that mantle for the second time last month – Kerr was also nominated for FIFA’s Ballon d’or as the best female player in the world.

While the 25-year-old Kerr did not take out that award she is regarded among the elite in her sport.

She was the cornerstone behind Perth Glory’s ascent to the recent W-League grand final, led the Matildas to the Asian Cup victory in 2017 and was both the Asian player-of-the-year and the W-League player-of-the-year.

A life-long West Coast Eagles fan, she joins a stellar list of luminaries to have held the distinction, including Formula 1 driving ace Daniel Riccardo, legendary fast bowler Dennis Lilllee and 1990s West Coast premiership heroes Michael Brennan and Tony Evans.

Kerr becomes the second woman to hold the position, replacing long-serving Foreign Affairs Minister Julie Bishop, who steps aside after a mandatory two-year reign.

A measure of Kerr’s standing in her sport is that sales of her No.20 Australian shirt out-strip all other merchandise, male or female, among soccer’s fan base.
