Best Eagle afield: Luke Shuey

Luke Shuey effected a game-high seven clearances against the Saints

There is an array of players in the AFL that fans pour through the gates to watch.

And classy West Coast Eagles midfielder Luke Shuey is among them. One of the most polished distributors of the ball – off either side of his body – he rarely wastes a possession.

Against the Saints, the quality of his touches was a key factor, but he doesn’t shirk the hard work either.

Shuey had 27 possessions, 12 of them contested, and was individually responsible for seven clearances, the most in the game.

Fellow Eagles midfielders Elliot Yeo and Dom Sheed were also important in that area with six clearances apiece.

In addition to those impressive numbers, Shuey, who won the Norm Smith Medal with a stellar performance in the 2018 grand final, also had nine score involvements.
