Best Eagle afield: Luke Shuey

Highlights: Crows v Eagles The Crows and Eagles clash in round 10

This match had significant momentum shifts throughout, with first one team and then the other holding sway.

When Eddie Betts dribbled a goal at the six minute mark of the third quarter, the Crows led by 33 points. It was a considerable advantage on home turf and it was going to take something special from the Eagles to wrest back the ascendancy.

As a collective the West Coast midfield assumed responsibility, with all of them weighing in with outstanding contributions. You could throw a blanket over the group in terms of selecting best afield, but the effort of Luke Shuey was marginally ahead of the others.

Over the last 18 months, it has been a common thread to see Shuey impose his class on the contest in big moments. This was no exception.

The 2018 Norm Smith medallist accumulated amazing statistics – 33 possessions, 17 of them contested, 11 clearances, six inside 50 entries and 10 tackles. And through having the ball in his hands so often, he gained a massive 768 metres with those disposals. That’s a whopper with the lot!

When he has the ball in his hands, the West Coast forwards’ mouths water because of his silky skills.
