Polar opposites in so many ways but united through the backline union, two key West Coast Eagles have recommitted to the club.

Smooth moving veteran Lewis Jetta has triggered an extension into the 2020 season, while hard-nosed youngster Jackson Nelson has signed a two-year extension.

Jetta, a classy ball user, one of the most fluent kicks in the game, has played in three grand finals and won premierships with both Sydney and West Coast, in his 193 games – 66 of which have been in Eagles colours.

The 30-year-old speedster shares the kick-in duties with another of the game’s most elite kicks, skipper Shannon Hurn, and there are few things more majestic than watching him glide his way out of the back half.

“I’m pretty happy, but I wasn’t too worried about it, I was just concentrating on playing footy,” Jetta said.

“I have always thought that once I lose my speed it might be time to retire, but I still have my speed and I feel like I’ve got three or four more years. Until then I’ll keep training and playing.”

Nelson, 23, played his 50th game a fortnight ago and is a defender in the more traditional sense; he locks down on an opponent first, loathes being beaten in a contest and loves his one-on-one battle.

After making his debut in round one, 2015 he has progressed strongly in his five years at the club and looms as an important part of the future.

“I’d like to thank the club for giving me the opportunity to continue here,” Nelson said.

“I have enjoyed it since the day I got here, I love the unity and spirit in the group and I want to be a part of an exciting era that continues to succeed.”

General Manager – Football Craig Vozzo said the club was thrilled to have locked away both players.

“Lewis and Jackson are players at opposite ends of their careers, but both are important members of our squad,” Vozzo said.

“Not only do they play key on-field roles for us, but they are also key members of the playing group off it.

“They bring a range of qualities and we are delighted they have both recommitted to the club ahead of our finals campaign.”
