WAFL: Eagles ready for do-or-die final

West Coast defeated West Perth by 69 points in round 14

West Coast will look to build on their late-season form when they take on West Perth in an elimination final at Joondalup Arena on Sunday.

After winning their last three games of the home-and-away season to book a spot in the finals, the Eagles will need to be at their best as they look to overcome last year’s grand finalists.

Shane Nelson (27.1 disposals per game) and Aaron Black (25.7) have starred in the Falcons’ midfield this season, with both players shaping as contenders in this year’s Sandover medal.

The Falcons’ forward line also possesses plenty of fire power, with five players having kicked 20-plus goals this season.

Andrew Strijk has led the Falcons’ attack with 38 goals in 17 games, finishing fourth in the Bernie Naylor Medal.

Keegan Knott (28 goals) and Michael Lourey (26) will also be on West Coast's radar.

Key midfielders Josh Smith and Brayden Ainsworth have been named to the 26-man squad, while defender Brodie Riach is also in the mix after missing the last six weeks of the season.

The Eagles will be without their leading goal-kicker Nic Reid, while key defender Will Schofield is also set to miss Sunday’s clash.

West Coast and West Perth last met in round 14, when the Eagles ran out 69-point winners in a dominant display.

The winner of Sunday’s match will take on the loser of South Fremantle and Claremont in a semi-final.

Bouncedown is at 2.40pm at Joondalup Arena.

The contest will be broadcast live on Channel 7 from 2.30pm.
