West Coast will appeal star defender Jeremy McGovern’s one-match ban for striking Gold Coast’s Alex Sexton.

McGovern was cited after a scuffle near the boundary line late in the third quarter of Saturday night’s loss to the Suns.

The incident was assessed as intentional conduct, low impact and high contact, with McGovern able to accept a one-game suspension with an early guilty plea.

But the Eagles have decided to challenge the Match Review Officer’s sanction at the AFL Tribunal on Tuesday evening.

If McGovern’s charge is upheld he would miss Saturday night’s clash with Brisbane at the Gabba.
