The West Coast Eagles will have the option of two selections in Wednesday’s mid-season AFL draft after placing forwards Daniel Venables and Jarrod Cameron on the inactive list.

Venables is continuing to be assessed around lingering symptoms following the brain trauma injury he suffered in the round nine game against Melbourne in 2019. A scheduled AFL Medical Panel review has been placed on hold because of the COVID-19 outbreak in Melbourne.

Cameron has a syndesmosis/ankle injury that will rule him out for the remainder of the season.

A member of the 2018 premiership team, Venables has not added to his 21 games since the injury that occurred in a marking contest a little more than two years ago.

Exciting young forward Cameron has also had his progress curtailed by injury in the last couple of seasons and his latest setback came playing for the WAFL Eagles a fortnight ago.

General Manager - Football Craig Vozzo confirmed today that both men had been placed on the inactive list and that the club will now consider its level of participation in Wednesday’s draft.

“For the last two years we have had Daniel’s health and wellbeing at the forefront of our minds and that continues to be the case,” Vozzo said.

“He has assimilated back into training this year, but the medical panel review is the next important step. Unfortunately that has been deferred because of the COVID situation in Melbourne.

“After getting himself back into good condition following an injury-interrupted first part of the season, Jarrod has unfortunately suffered a significant ankle injury.

"Following discussions with our medical staff, Jarrod and his management we have also placed him on the inactive list and we will concentrate on his recovery over the remainder of the season.”
