Young Eagles members were invited to Mineral Resources Park these school holidays to practise their footy skills with the pros at some member-exclusive events.

Week one of the holidays saw a group of teenagers attend the Eagles Rising Stars Training Day, led by inaugural Eagle Steve Malaxos with assistance from former AFL player Alec Waterman, both current club staff.

The small but enthusiastic group of teens enjoyed personalised coaching and received some handy footy tips from up-and-coming West Coast Eagles players: Connor West, Callum Jamieson, Greg Clark, Alex Witherden and Ryan Maric.

Despite an overcast afternoon, the rain held off until the moment the training session ended, allowing the Rising Stars members to make the most of the exclusive experience.

The second week of the school holidays kicked off with the Rick’s Rookies Coaching Clinic. More than 200 children aged from 5-11 years descended on the home of the West Coast Eagles to partake in a range of football drills and activities with the full AFL squad.

The junior members practised their kicking, running and handballing skills alongside their football heroes, and had the chance to meet Rick the Rock, who wandered around the oval throughout the event.

Perhaps the most popular activity of the morning was the Q&A station, which allowed the junior members the chance to ask some players the pressing questions, while the players were able to share some of their best advice with the young Eagles fans.

The West Could Eagles would like to thank all the junior members who attended the July school holidays events – we hope you had a great time!
