Exciting young defender Zoe Wakfer will be West Coast’s third debutant this season when she takes the field in the blue and gold on Sunday against Carlton.

Recruited to the Eagles in 2022, Wakfer has shown development and growth both on and off the field and has been rewarded for her hard work and determination.

Wakfer caught the eye of recruiters with her composure and poise around the ball, while her 181cm frame provides some valuable height in the backline.

A product of the South Fremantle Bulldogs, Wakfer was called up to make her WAFLW debut for the league side after just two Rogers Cup matches.

AFLW List Manager Jordan Loxley said Wakfer is a versatile defender who has shown great improvement despite having limited football experience.

“Zoe is a tough key defender who has the ability to defend well, while her athleticism also allows her to play on multiple types of players,” Loxley said.

“We really liked the way Zoe improved throughout the course of her draft year, having played very little football growing up.

“Her development that year was enormous and her ability to defend and intercept the ball was really appealing.

“It’s wonderful to see Zoe make her debut this weekend, she’s shown great growth in the last six months and the coaching staff have done a wonderful job developing Zoe’s football to the point where she is ready to go.”

The Eagles take on Carlton on Sunday from 1:05pm at Mineral Resources Park.
