The incredible rejuvenation of Jake Waterman has been the feel-good story of the season. Not just within the West Coast Eagles but across the competition.

Seriously ill last year after returning home from a game in Adelaide there was no guarantee he would play again. But Waterman was meticulous with his recovery plan and hit the ground running, quite literally.

He won the 2km time trial at the start of pre-season and that was the start of an outstanding summer.

He has carried that into the season and has kicked 21 goals in the first seven games, including four against Gold Coast yesterday.

His work rate is phenomenal and he has thoroughly deserved to reap the rewards. Waterman had 15 possessions, took seven marks and provided a reliable target inside the attacking 50.
