Star WAFL Eagle and acting captain Trey Ruscoe has been selected in the 26-player state squad to represent Western Australia against South Australia on Sunday at Optus Stadium.

The state clash will be a curtain raiser to the AFL game between Waalitj Marawar and Narrm, bouncedown at 12:40pm.

Ruscoe has been a standout for the WAFL Eagles so far this season, playing a combination of forward and back, and bringing a competitive presence to any task assigned to him.

The former Collingwood defender and WA local joined West Coast ahead of the 2024 season, having played 18 games with the Pies across four seasons.

At just 23-years of age, Ruscoe has been a strong addition to the team, his maturity, leadership and talent on display from week to week, in what has been a challenging season so far for the Eagles.

In the absence of captain Jackson Nelson (injury), Ruscoe was elevated to the acting captain role, and has been a terrific role model for not only the WAFL players, but for the young and emerging AFL recruits who are coming through the ranks.

Sunday’s state game will be shown on AFL.com.au and the AFL app.
