It didn’t take long for Hewett’s bold and brave playing style to win over West Coast fans, with the electric midfielder showing exciting signs of his prodigious talent in 14 matches last year. Hewett made his debut in the round two win over the Giants and showed great promise before an ankle injury slowed his progress. But the effervescent youngster returned with a bang in the second half of the year, adding some dash and dare to the Eagles line-up and earning a Rising Star nomination in round 22 following an impressive run of form, including two goals in a narrow loss to St Kilda in round 16 and 21 disposals and a major in a drought-breaking win over North Melbourne in round 20. Hewett’s ability to break from congestion with power and speed is a point of difference suited to the modern game and a bright future is taking shape for the Swan Districts product.
