West Coast Eagles Western Australian Recruiting Manager Trevor Woodhouse says they will use pick 11 to select the best available player at this year’s AFL Draft.

There is always a fine balance between using selections to fill the ‘gaps’ on club lists and picking the best player available, but Woodhouse says the Eagles have a clear understanding as to what they’ll do come draft day.

“Areas of need come under consideration, “he said.

“But we tend to probably look, particularly at your first pick, to perhaps pick who we think the best player is.

“Everyone goes on about big-bodied midfielders, they seem to be the flavour of the month, but I think there’s plenty of small midfielders that do a pretty good job too.

“They see the Nat Fyfe’s running around, who are terrific players don’t get me wrong, but they don’t come along that often.”
