Super keen midfielder Kane Lucas wasted no time familiarising himself with his new West Coast Eagles teammates, dashing to training this morning after filling the final position on the club’s list.

Lucas, 23, was the last domino to fall in a strategic draft that saw the club add considerable depth, running power, speed and class to its midfield unit.

West Coast had just one selection in today’s rookie draft and it snared the former Carlton speedster with the 10th selection in that ballot.

West Coast's football boss Craig Vozzo said the club was delighted to finalise the squad, with Lucas drafted and international rookie Paddy Brophy and baseball convert Corey Adamson officially becoming West Coast players, although the paperwork had been approved weeks ago and they have been training since the resumption of pre-season.

“The addition of Kane complements the group of players we secured through the national draft,” Vozzo said today.

“We drafted five 18-year-olds in the national draft and we felt we needed to add a mature player to our squad. Kane is a 23-year-old who has played 42 games at the level and he also has good pace.

“Given a second opportunity in his home town, we believe he can flourish in that environment.”

Lucas was taken with pick 12 in the 2009 draft by the Blues and in 2010 just judged their best first year player. Shortly after the formalities were announced and he was assured of a second chance at elite level, he jumped in his car to introduce himself to his new teammates and to partake in a brief skills session.

With Lucas filling the last available spot on the squad, West Coast eight has made eight changes to the 2014 roster. In addition to Lucas, Brophy and Adamson, the club drafted Liam Duggan, Tom Lamb, Jackson Nelson, Damien Cavka and Alec Waterman last Thursday.
