When HBF Health Fit Fan Sarah Longley was 17, she got some news that no woman ever wants to receive: she was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. The condition, which has no cure, can lead to infertility, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. The only way to reduce the risk of these health risks, or at least stave them off for as long as possible is to manage it, largely through regular exercise and a low GI diet.

To a girl of 17 though, this is a big ask, and the now 21-year-old Sarah has struggled for a long time with these lifestyle changes. “When I was younger I just didn’t understand how that could help my condition,” says Sarah. “But I knew I needed to make a change, and HBF Health Fit Fans provided a great incentive for me to put up a good fight!”

Sarah has been exercising regularly – lots of jogging and walking, and she’s even doing regular dance classes. She’s also been eating better – little and often, more greens, and focusing on protein. By working out what’s best for her metabolism she’s been able to make a positive change to her eating habits without going hungry or trying a fad diet.

“I’m so glad I’m a Fit Fan. It’s given me the motivation I needed to make a change and my most recent scan showed the cysts have reduced in size, which is amazing! Seeing the effects of my new healthy habits has made me determined to keep them up even once the competition is over.”
