Improvement is the key word around West Coast Eagles pre-season training. It’s the theme of what the coaching staff are focused on achieving, both collectively and individually.

It makes sense that the major upside in that improvement will come from the younger, developing members of the squad.

All players, including the likes of Darren Glass, Dean Cox and Matt Priddis, will focus on enhancing their skills set, but the younger players in the group obviously have greater scope to improve because they are in an earlier phase of their career.

For that reason, senior coach Adam Simpson and his assistants would be delighted with the output of a number of the young player on the training track.

As the block of pre-Christmas training moves into its final days, the likes of Brant Colledge, Murray Newman, Fraser McInnes, Adam Carter and Brad Sheppard have consistently shone on the track.

At a hit-out at McGillivray Oval this morning, those developing players were prominent, both in the skill drills and match simulation.

Additionally, Elliot Yeo and Xavier Ellis, who have come to the club from Brisbane and Hawthorn in the off-season, have been equally impressive while upgraded rookie Jamie Bennell has moved well.
