Over 80 senior West Coast Eagles members were this week treated to an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the West Coast Eagles training facilities as part of the club’s “Eagles in their Prime” activity morning.

West Coast has joined forces with the Seniors Recreation Council of WA Inc. to bring members aged 65 or over the “Eagles in their Prime” program to encourage healthy aging through activities and education.

This annual event was again hosted by inaugural captain and Brownlow medallist Ross Glendinning.

Glendinning believes the partnership marks an exciting time for the Eagles, with hopes that the 2017 move to new facilities at Lathlain Park will allow the club to hold similar community events more frequently.

“At Lathlain, we will have larger and more flexible community spaces that will allow the senior community greater access to take part in preventative health and fitness activities, education sessions and social events,” Glendinning said.

Following refreshments served in the players’ lounge, guests were invited to participate in a number of different physical activities, including Xbox Kinect, mini golf and seated hockey in the players’ warm-up room.

Club memorabilia also provided a trip down memory lane for guests as they were given the opportunity to have a picture with the 1994 premiership cup to coincide with last year’s 20th anniversary of the club’s second premiership victory.

Sandover medallist and inaugural Eagle Phil Narkle and mascot Rick the Rock made an appearance, joining a number of senior members out on the oval to pose for photos and practise pole-walking.

Participants were also treated to a behind-the-scenes tour of the club’s training facility with Kim Hannah and past player Bradd Dalziell.

Following the success of this event, the West Coast Eagles and Seniors Recreation Council of WA Inc. are looking forward to collaborating on future active health, fitness and social events for senior members, including a Tech Savvy Seniors computer course in September, Grandparents Day celebration event on October 8 and Have a Go Day on November 11.
