West Coast’s nominees for the AFLPA MVP award have been confirmed, with star big man Nic Naitanui, Tom Barrass and Shannon Hurn selected by their teammates to be in the running for the Leigh Matthews Trophy.

Under the two-step voting process for the award, every AFL player is asked to nominate three teammates they deem worthy.

In stage two, players select their MVP from the list featuring all 18 clubs’ three nominees, and can’t vote for their teammates.

Ben Cousins (2005) and Chris Judd (2006) are the only Eagles to win the award since its inception in 1982.

Hurn has previously been named the game’s best captain by his peers following the 2019 campaign.

Barrass has also been nominated for the Most Courageous category, while mid-season rookie draftee Connor West is in the running as Best First-Year Player.

The 2021 AFLPA MVP Awards will be held on Thursday, September 2.
