Each week in May, one of the following West Coast Eagles players; Luke Shuey, Jack Redden, Jamie Cripps and Tom Barrass will represent Dom’s Challenge4BrainCancer squad.

The aim is for the squad to have run 400 kilometres in the month of May to help raise money for brain cancer research, which will be tracked across training and games.

Dom will be sharing on his personal social media channels weekly updates to keep everyone up to date with how the kilometres and funds are tracking.

The Charlie Teo Foundation is dedicated to funding brain cancer research with a low-cost model that’s redefining how charities operate.

May is Brain Cancer Awareness Month and Dom is encouraging everyone to join him and be brave for brain cancer research.

The goal is to raise $200,000 with this Challenge4BrainCancer so the Foundation can fund a scientist who could be key to finally uncovering the answers we need to treat brain cancer.

#Challenge4BrainCancer

“Brain cancer is totally indiscriminate as to who it affects. Symptoms can come on suddenly, and can be devastating," Dr Charlie Teo, neurosurgeon and founder of the Charlie Teo Foundation said.

"People diagnosed with brain cancer are thrust totally out of their comfort zone, facing the biggest challenge of their life.

"They are forced to face an unimaginable fate: that their lives may be measured in months and weeks, and that their dreams may never be achieved. We must help them hold hope.

"Charlie Teo Foundation’s Challenge 4 Brain Cancer is asking everyone to get out of their comfort zone this May and help raise vital funds for brain cancer research.

"Dom Sheed is one of our amazing Brain Cancer Warriors daring to take the challenge with his West Coast Eagles teammates.

We couldn’t be prouder to have Dom and the West Coast Eagles join us this Brain Cancer Awareness Month in our quest for a cure. All funds raised will go towards the game-changing brain cancer research so desperately needed!”

Message from Dom:

I did not know these shocking facts about brain cancer. Did you?

  • brain cancer kills more kids in Australia than any other disease!
  • more people under 40 die from brain cancer than any other cancer!
  • 6 people are diagnosed every day with brain cancer
  • survival rates have not improved in over 35 years

Despite this, brain cancer research is one of the least funded cancers! We need to change the statistics we need to pour money into research to find the answers.

It wasn't until someone close to me was diagnosed with brain cancer that I became aware of these facts as well as the lack of treatment options available.

Unfortunately in July 2021 my mother in law was diagnosed with Glioblastoma, a type of cancer I had never even of heard of until then, despite it affecting a lot of people and being a very common type of brain cancer.

Nikki was a very healthy lady, looked after herself and her wellbeing, so to find out she had developed such an aggressive cancer, for no “reason” and in such a short time, was and still is a huge shock.

Nikki has been absolutely incredible and continues to fight every day, but we’ve seen first hand how unfair, complicated, heart breaking and ruthless brain cancer can be. I want to do everything I can to raise awareness and help find a cure for this horrible cancer.

Not enough is known about brain cancer and how to treat it. There is simply not enough money going to research. This has to change. We need to be shouting from the rooftops, raising awareness and funds for the cancer that affects so many Aussie families.

May is Brain Cancer Awareness Month and in recognition of that, I am proud to say that I am going to be a Charlie Teo Foundation #Challenge4BrainCancer Warrior.

Each week in May I will choose 4 boys to be in my challenge squad. The aim is for the squad to have run 400 kilometres in the month of May to help raise money for brain cancer research.

This will be tracked across training and games. Each week I will announce who the 4 squad members are and I will post updates to my social pages, letting everyone know how we are tracking.

Please support me and my challenge squad by making a donation and helping us raise much needed funds for the Charlie Teo Foundation and brain cancer research.

Let's do it!
