Subiaco proved a little too efficient for the West Coast Eagles WAFL team carving out a 28-point victory in a curtain-raiser at Optus Stadium today.

Statistically the game was close in most respects, including the inside 50 comparison but Subiaco was for more accurate in front of goal, winning …14.6 (90) to 8.14 (62).

The Eagles were well served by Josh Rotham who was cast in the unusual role of ruck, changing forward with emerging youngster Jack Williams.

Rotham, who has played the majority of his senior football in defence was the architect of some impressive centre clearances, particularly in the second quarter when the Eagles made a charge at the Lions, nudging to within a kick.

Young midfielders Zane Trew and Jai Culley were beneficiaries of that ruck work where they split their  way through the congestion and hit up forwards with precision foot skills.

Down back Ethan Hansen was outstanding while Alex Witherden and Luke Foley had some good moments.
