A pair of two-time John Worsfold medallists are inching closer to bolstering West Coast’s line-up for the run home, with stars Nic Naitanui and Elliot Yeo chances to return from injury next week.

Meanwhile, gun midfielder Tim Kelly (corked quad) and developing ruck Callum Jamieson (adductor) will both be tested later this week before their availability to face St Kilda on Sunday is determined.

Naitanui was withdrawn from the trip to face Hawthorn due to knee soreness but is making progress and could be back against Gold Coast in round 20.

Yeo will also miss the Saints clash – as will speedster Jack Petruccelle, also with a hamstring strain – but is pushing to be back to face the Suns.

“Nic had some irritation at the back of his right knee. He had some time off to let that settle and regain his strength in the gym,” Head of Health Mark Finucane told westcoasteagles.com.au.

“We’re now starting the process of building up his running and working through his football progressions over the next couple of sessions.

“He’ll be one-to-two weeks away.

“’Yeoy’ had a really good session on Saturday and he’ll continue to build. We’ve seen him in skills today and he’ll do a little bit more training.

“He’ll have a sign-off for his hamstring later in the week and on track for next week.

“’Petch’ has progressed nicely through the early stages of his rehab for his hamstring strain and similar to Elliot we’re hoping to see him do a sign-off on the weekend and on track for next week.”

Kelly pushed through a corked quad suffered during the second quarter against Hawthorn, and a tag from Finn Maginness, to finish with 21 disposals and a goal.

He jogged laps at Mineral Resources Park on Tuesday, while Jamieson joined in skills work.

“Tim did really well to get through the game. Obviously heavily padded and a little bit restricted by that,” Finucane said.

“It’s come up quite well due to his elite management post-game, but he’ll have a light start to the week and he’ll be a decision getting through Captain’s Run later in the week.

“’Jamo’ has just been managing – as young ruckmen do – some groin awareness.

“That had been bubbling away the last week or two, so the decision was made to sub him out.”

Meanwhile, rugged onballer Connor West is also in the mix to play football this round after missing the past two games with Achilles soreness.

“Connor’s been troubled by a little bit of Achilles irritation. We took a couple of weeks to take the load off that and let that settle down and get some strengthening up in the gym,” Finucane said.

“He’s built up his running and will go into training later in the week and that will really give us an indication of its load tolerance and readiness to play.”
