The West Coast Eagles suffered an eighth consecutive loss when completely out-worked and out-played by Hawthorn in Launceston today.

The Hawks dominated from the outset establishing their authority with a seven-goal opening term and never relinquishing their hold on the game, running away with a mammoth 116-point victory.

The Eagles kicked the first goal of the match courtesy of Jamaine Jones against the breeze, but that triggered a powerful response from Hawthorn who took full advantage of an under-manned and under-sized Eagles defence.

Mitch Lewis and Jacob Koschitzke were a constant threat in the air and when the Eagles defence managed to get the ball to ground Luke Breust, Dylan Moore, Tyler Brockman and wingman Josh Weddle also hit the scoreboard.

Unfortunately, with little midfield pressure as Hawthorn transitioned the ball forward they were able to assess their options and hit targets regularly. The inside 50 domination meant the Eagles back six were constantly under pressure.

To add injury to insult, Jones was subbed out of the game just before half time, making a 46-point deficit even more unpalatable.

The Eagles brought a lift in intensity in the third quarter but were still comfortably outscored.

The pleasing aspects on a day when there were few, came from the input of forwards Jack Petruccelle, wingman Brady Hough and small forward Noah Long.

In addition midfielders Tim Kelly and Dom Sheed continued to work hard along with ruckman Bailey Williams.

Unfortunately Hawthorn kicked the only three goals for the term to stretch the margin to 67 points at the last change.

And there was more of the same in the last quarter as the Eagles energy and effort dissipated as Hawthorn rattled on a further eight goals.
