In what was a disappointing day out, the WAFL Eagles fell to Subiaco by 65 points on Saturday at Sullivan Logistics Stadium.

Senior coach Kyal Horsley said the result is a reminder to the group of what is required to be competitive in the league.

“It was a disappointing result for the group, we couldn’t match Subiaco’s intensity early and spent the first quarter trying to undo the damage done in the first 10 minutes,” Horsley said.

“While we did steady and started to play the brand we had seen over the previous two games, Subiaco’s defence stood up and we couldn’t close the margin, and from there, they were able to get some late goals and take the game away from us.

“To the groups credit, we kept working hard to play our system and close the margin but Subi were too good for the rest of the game, and it was reminder for our young group of what’s required to challenge at this level.”

Top Performers

Tyler Brockman

“It was a really strong game from Tyler. He applied good pressure in the front half and was rewarded with a goal, and had a big impact when he played inside mid.”

Trey Ruscoe

“Trey led the group well and set the tone with his attack on the ball and opposition.”

Josh Rotham

“Roth had real influence on the game, he worked hard when we had the ball and defended well when Subiaco had it. He never gave up and was trying to lift others until the final siren.”

AFL Listed Players

Archer Reid

“Tough day to be a forward but Archer competed well in the air and worked tirelessly to create turnovers for the team.”

Harvey Johnston

“Found himself on the openside wing a lot which can take you out of the game as far as possessions go, but he played his role well for the team.”

Clay Hall

“Clay played with an intensity which has become a feature of his game and this rewarded him with eight clearances and six tackles.”

Harry Barnett

“Second game back from injury and had strong first half which featured six tackles and two clearances. He faded in the second half but will no doubt take confidence from how he started and is ready to turn it into a four quarter performance.”

Jack Williams

“Tough day to be a deep forward but Jack continually worked hard to give us an option and was never out marked in a contest despite being outnumbered on multiple occasions.”

Tyrell Dewar

“Tyrell had some real highlight moments but what impressed me the most was his work when Subiaco had the ball and his effort to create a turnover.”

Loch Rawlinson

“As the emergency for the AFL game, Loch was on managed minutes which makes it hard to get into the flow of the game. Despite this, he had a real impact for us when he was on and applied great pressure to opposition.”

Jordyn Baker

“He defended well under a lot of supply and gave us some good drive with ball in hand.”

Coen Livingstone

“Coen led the ruck this week and had a strong game. His follow up has become a feature of his game and he was able to extract five clearances as well as applying two tackles, and he took some strong marks and kicked a goal.”

Zane Trew

“Another strong game for Zane, he gave us real drive from clearance and linked the ground well both offensively and defensively.”

Callum Jamieson

“Second game back from a long layoff and performed well. He showed his competitive streak and wouldn’t give an inch despite the amount of supply coming in.”

Coby Burgiel

“It was a slow start to the game for Coby, but we got to see his best in the second half and he finished the game strongly. He won some strong contests which will give him confidence post bye.”
