The West Coast Eagles returned to the track on Monday morning as temperatures climbed to 33 degrees, with a light breeze offering brief relief throughout a crisp, high-energy session.
With the main workload completed during Saturday’s session, today focused on sharpening execution and maintaining conditioning.
Match play highlights
Match play made up the core of the session, with several standout moments across the ground.
No. 1 draft pick Willem Duursma was a noticeable presence during the midfield work, delivering precise kicking throughout and consistently using his reach and touch to open up play.
Jake Waterman looked sharp and purposeful around the contest as he continued his strong pre-season preparation.
Impressive second-year forward Jobe Shanahan impressed once again with a composed high grab under pressure.
Cooper Duff‑Tytler was lively, moving smoothly at ground level while also showing he can hold his own against the club’s established talls, matching up strongly on experienced ruckmen like Matt Flynn and Harry Barnett.
Elliot Yeo burst out of the blocks early with trademark acceleration before shifting to a lighter training load for the remainder of the session.
The electrifying Harley Reid brought flashes of brilliance, including a powerful fend-off and an explosive breakaway from teammates.
Brandon Starcevich participated fully in the match‑play drills as he continues building synergy with his new teammates.
The 26‑year‑old showed no lingering effects of knee soreness, moving freely and playing an active role.
Starcevich looked comfortable in the warm conditions, working strongly alongside the main group and putting in plenty of effort throughout the hit‑out.
Meanwhile, senior leaders Jamie Cripps and Liam Duggan spent the majority of the session in the gym. Duggan later joined the on-field group for line-based kicking drills.
The session wrapped up with a return to light match simulation and running patterns, rounding out a productive Monday as the squad continues to build towards the coming season.

Sam Allen continued his ACL rehabilitation program, while Bailey Williams trained away from the main group, focusing on his individual program.
Elijah Hewett also completed portions of his work separately, mixing forward and backward running efforts as he progresses from a calf complaint.
