West Coast Eagles have finalised their WAFL side ahead of their round three clash with Subiaco at Mineral Resources Park on Sunday, with the match set to carry plenty of intrigue on and off the field.

The Eagles have made four changes to the line‑up following last week’s outing against West Perth, with Matt Owies, Ryan Maric and Matt Flynn all coming into the side, alongside the return of Jack Hutchinson. The 2024 mid‑season recruit is poised to play his first game of the season after completing his recovery from ankle surgery late last year.

Owies and Maric add experience and polish across the ground, while Flynn strengthens the ruck division alongside an energetic midfield group led by Tyrell Dewar and Tom Gross.

Several players make way for West Coast this week, with Sam Cipriani, Jack Walsh and James Ewing named as emergencies, while Darby McCarthy has been ruled out with a hip issue.

Saturday night also shapes as an intriguing coaching match‑up, with Subiaco Lions coach Jarrad Schofield returning to face his former club. A premiership player and coach, Schofield led the Lions to three flags between 2014 and 2018 before taking the role of assistant coach at the West Coast Eagles for four seasons, from 2022 through the end of 2025. 

He will go head‑to‑head with WAFL Eagles coach Kyal Horsley, one of Subiaco’s most decorated former players, a five‑time premiership player and four‑time Outridge Medallist who took charge of the WAFL Eagles ahead of the 2024 season.

Following their round two victory over West Perth, the Eagles will be keen to build momentum with a steady performance against Subiaco, with added bragging rights at stake between the opposing coaches.
