Young West Coast Eagles members were kept entertained during the April school holidays, with invitations extended by the club for them to attend two coaching clinics.

Week one saw a group of Reserved Seat, Flexi and Auskick members head to Wembley Sports Park to participate in a number of drills and activities led by some of the club’s up-and-coming players.

Harry Edwards, Bailey Williams, Xavier O’Neill, Keegan Brooksby and Brayden Ainsworth joined 50 young fans as they took part in the club’s first Junior Member Coaching Clinic.

The children enjoyed practising their skills and joining in fun football activities, before getting signatures from some of the club’s newest faces.

In the second week of the holidays, nearly 400 children took part in the annual Rick’s Rookies Coaching Clinic and were put through their paces by their football heroes.

Children enjoyed a variety of different activities throughout the event, including practising their kicking accuracy with Jeremy McGovern and Brad Sheppard, playing the Indigenous game of Borna Jokee with Lewis Jetta and Luke Shuey, and trying to sneak a goal past All-Australian defender and club captain Shannon Hurn.

The Eagles players were joined by special guests, West Coast Fever players Verity Charles, Jhaniele Fowler and Jess Anstiss, who added some netball activities into the mix.

After participating in each activity and before moving onto the next station, the Rookie members had the chance to get some signatures from, or a photo with, the players on their current station.

The West Coast Eagles would like to thank the Rick’s Rookies and junior members who attended the April coaching clinics and hope they had as much fun as our staff and players did.

A special thank you must also go to the volunteers from ECU, SEDA and the Wirrpanda Foundation, who gave up their time to assist in the smooth running of both events.
