Dynamic West Coast Eagles forward Jack Darling will be an Eagle for life after signing a new five-year contract.

Darling, 27, who has recaptured the form that made him one of the most influential players in the competition in the first half of last year, was a key factor in the 2018 premiership.

As the club strives for a fifth successive finals series, Darling will again be a focal point in the forward 50.

Sitting fifth on the all-time list of goal kickers in West Coast history – behind revered teammate Josh Kennedy (581), Peter Sumich (511), Mark LeCras (441) and Phil Matera (389) – he is in exalted company.

The key forward is now in his prime years and has played 188 games since making his debut in 2011.

“I grew up supporting the Eagles, so to be here for my entire career is something I’ll look back on proudly,” Darling said.

“I always thought I was going to be a one-club player. I’m just really excited that the club has backed me in like they have my whole career. I’m really excited for the future.

“The challenge for us in 2019 is to play consistently over four quarters, so we’ve just got to make sure we play a good, consistent four quarters and make sure we qualify for finals as quickly as we can.”

General manager of football Craig Vozzo said it was satisfying to lock in the high-calibre forward.

“We couldn’t be happier,” Vozzo said.

“He’s been a fantastic player and person for our footy club for many years now. We were lucky enough to get Jack through to us in the 2010 draft. The recruiters pulled off a gem there.

“He’s been the ultimate professional in everything that he does and to have him commit to us for the long term is fantastic. We’re hoping we can help him to be the best he can be and continue to improve even to that next level.”
