West Coast Eagles forward Jamie Cripps has avoided the worst-case scenario and is not expected to require surgery after sustaining a serious knee injury on Saturday in the WAFL.

Cripps underwent scans on Sunday, following the distressing incident suffered midway through the final term in the WAFL Eagles loss to South Fremantle.

The 34-year-old premiership player is still expected to be sidelined for an extended period of time after scans showed a significant strain and MCL damage.

Further updates and return to play timeframe to come.
