Exciting young defender Josh Lindsay has been rewarded for his impressive performance in Waalitj Marawar’s win over the Giants on Sunday, recognised as the round 10 Rising Star nominee.
The 19-year-old Geelong Falcons product shone on the big stage with 19 disposals at an elite 95 per cent efficiency, 375m gained, six marks and three tackles in just his ninth game at AFL level.
“It feels good, and I’m really grateful for the nomination,” Lindsay said.
“To get the win at home last night and celebrate it with all the boys makes it even better.
“We’ve been building each week so to get a win at home in front of our home fans is really a good reward for effort.”
Selected with pick 19 in the 2025 draft, left-footed Lindsay has been a consistent performer in his debut season, fetching a team-high 31 touches against St Kilda in round six.
“I’ve loved every minute of AFL life,” Lindsay said.
“I’m still learning a lot each week, but all the players and coaches have backed me in, which gives me a lot of confidence to go out there and perform.”
Reflecting on his AFL journey so far, Lindsay praised the influence that Head of Development Jamie Maddocks and teammate Liam Baker have had on his career.
“There have been so many people who have helped me along the way, but Jamie Maddocks has been really good for me and given me great guidance both on and off the field,” Lindsay said.
“And Liam Baker, he has helped me a lot since arriving at the club and I love playing alongside him.”
Lindsay becomes the third Eagle to be nominated for the Rising Star this season so far, with fellow youngsters Jobe Shanahan and Willem Duursma nominated consecutively in rounds two and three.
He is also the eighth current Eagles player to receive a Rising Star nomination since 2023, including Reuben Ginbey, Elijah Hewett, Harley Reid, Tyrell Dewar and Clay Hall.
