West Coast list manager Matt Clarke says it is unlikely Geelong forward Gryan Miers will head west with discussions yet to take place with the Cats.
Miers completed a medical with the Eagles before travelling overseas ahead of the Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period commencing on Monday.
The Eagles are keen to bolster their forward line during the player movement period and have shown interest in 27-year-old premiership Cat Miers, who is contracted for two more years.
“More than likely he’s staying at Geelong I would have thought,” said Clarke, the Eagles’ Head of List Management and Recruiting.
“He’s heavily contracted so we’ll see what that looks like in the next few days but I think that’s where it sits.
“The only thing that Gryan would say is he wants to continue to play really high level footy, and he’s said that to a number of people.
“I think he’s really comfortable at Geelong at this stage. I think he’s going to be playing for the Cats next year.”
West Coast flew Jack Viney to Perth last week and the Melbourne midfielder toured the facilities at Mineral Resources Park as part of the club’s pitch for him to become an Eagle.
“We think we’ve presented a strong case for Jack as to why he’d be a great fit for our footy club from a playing point-of-view and what he brings as a leader and a culture-shaper,” Clarke said.
“Maybe in the next few days we’ll find out a little bit more on that.
“We think it’s a strong pitch. We understand it’s a really big decision for him with a young family to move from Melbourne to Perth so it was a little around how he would fit in culturally over there with our guys and obviously where his family would fit too.
“We wanted to put as much effort into that as we did with the footy component when Andrew (McQualter) and I met with him.”
The Eagles also hold some interest in Viney's Demons teammate and WA product Trent Rivers.
“Obviously we have some priorities with our playing group and our list spots as well,” Clarke said at Marvel Stadium on the opening day of Trade Period.
“It’s easy to try and bring in three, four, five players but you’ve got to have the room to do it.
“We’ll see what happens in the next 48 hours with that one I think.”

Clarke also confirmed West Coast is highly unlikely to trade pick three in this year’s national draft.
“Given the calibre of players we think will be around that pick from both a talent point-of-view and position point-of-view we think that’s a pretty good spot for us to be selecting,” he said.
“I can’t see us moving it.”
West Coast holds ‘slight interest’ in Hawthorn forward Sam Butler and is unlikely to pursue Richmond defender Nathan Broad.
“It’s not a hard no. We’ve had dialogue with Nathan and his management group throughout the year,” Clarke said.
“It’s more unlikely but you just never know what opens up through the Trade Period or what happens with our list.
“Obviously I know Nathan really well (from being at Richmond), he’s a high quality person, high calibre player so if that did move at some point we’d be having a look at it.”
