West Coast Eagles defender Fred Rodriguez has signed a contract extension, committing to the club until at least the end of 2027.
Despite having his first season interrupted by injury, Rodriguez enjoyed a strong campaign in the Eagles' WAFL side.
The 19-year-old, taken with the first pick in the 2025 Rookie Draft, averaged 15 disposals from 15 games and showcased his versatility in a half-back role after returning from a stress fracture suffered during the pre-season.
Rodriguez has continued his development within the Eagles' program, impressing coaches and teammates with his work ethic and commitment to improving every aspect of his game.
The promising youngster said re-signing was an easy decision, citing the club's environment, coaching group and exciting future as key reasons behind his commitment.
"It was an easy decision to stay,” Rodriguez said.
“We've got a great bunch of boys who I want to continue to grow and play with, and we also have great coaches who I feel can help me develop further and get the most out of myself.
"I'm really excited about what we can do next year as a group and, personally, to keep working and getting better and hopefully make my debut.
“We're building a great culture and it's a fun place to be.”
Head of List Management and Recruiting Matt Clarke said Rodriguez had all the attributes required to become an important player for the club.
"We have been pleased with Fred’s progress since arriving at the club and are delighted to extend his contract for a further year as a rookie," Clarke said.
"Throughout 2026, Fred demonstrated his adaptability and team-first approach, successfully contributing across a number of different positions.
"We look forward to continuing to support his development and are excited to see his growth over the next stage of his career."
