The WAFL Eagles have bolstered their list ahead of the 2027 season, signing experienced defender Jed Bews and exciting young talent Zac Walker.
Former Geelong premiership player Bews has committed to the WAFL Eagles for the next two seasons, bringing a wealth of experience after a decorated AFL career.
The 32-year-old played 175 AFL games with the Cats, highlighted by the club's 2022 premiership triumph.
Renowned for his defensive reliability and competitiveness, Bews built a reputation as one of the competition's most dependable lockdown defenders while also providing strong rebound from the back half.
“It’s an exciting new chapter for myself over here in WA,” Bews said.
“I’m pumped and looking forward to catching up with all the guys and getting to work.”
Across his AFL career, Bews averaged 14 disposals, six marks and four rebound 50s per game, regularly matching up on some of the game's most dangerous forwards.
West Coast Eagles Head of WAFL Football Steve Trewhella said Bews would be a valuable addition both on and off the field.
"Jed’s experience and leadership will be instrumental in the development of the West Coast Eagles WAFL program, including our younger cohort of developing players," Trewhella said.
"We see Jed playing a lead role as the program looks to continue to build on the momentum and ground it gained in the 2026 season."
Joining Bews at the WAFL Eagles is former Western Bulldogs-listed player Zac Walker.
The 20-year-old arrives with enormous potential after spending the past two seasons in the Bulldogs' system following his selection from Gippsland in the 2025 Mid-Season Rookie Draft.
Originally recruited as a key defender, Walker showcased his versatility late in the 2026 VFL season when shifted forward for Footscray's finals campaign.
“I’m very excited to get started, I’ve met a few of the boys already and it’s been great,” Walker said.
“I’m keen to get to work with everyone and looking forward to having a good year.”
The 191cm athletic intercept defender has shown significant upside with his ability to read the play and impact contests through strong intercept marking, whether aerially or at ground level, while using his athleticism to influence play at both ends of the ground.
Trewhella said the club was eager to help the young Victorian continue his development.
"Zac demonstrated significant structural flexibility in his 24 games in the VFL and was often thrown forward as a target, which allowed him to showcase his high ceiling as a modern-day swingman," Trewhella said.
"He showed his versatility during the Bulldogs' 2025 finals campaign that resulted in a VFL premiership, and he's a self-starter who is highly motivated to continue developing his football at an elite level.
"We've already seen that commitment since his relocation to Perth, training alongside a large cohort of our AFL-listed players throughout the off-season."
The WAFL Eagles continue to build towards an exciting 2027, with Bews and Walker adding valuable experience, depth and versatility to the squad.
