“Football means many things to me. Football means tradition, football means family, and football means socialising, it means being involved in a club, but most of all it means having fun.”

Football perfectly summed up in the words of our Member of the Round for round four, Richard Collins.

Richard’s history with the West Coast Eagles starts back many years ago, attending games regularly in Perth and in Melbourne. It was during this time that a superstitious tradition was formed.

“The scarf I still wear to every game I attend, I purchased at Windy Hill back in 1990. Surprisingly it is still in good condition and I continue to wear it as so far it has brought us a lot of good luck.”

Richard became an official member of the West Coast Eagles 14 years ago.

“I signed up at a time when I was living in Melbourne and I didn't have any West Australian friends over there who were also Eagles supporters. One day sitting in the stands at Etihad stadium the Melbourne based, West Coast Eagles, cheer squad caught my attention and I decided to become a member and get involved.”

We asked Richard to name is most cherished memory of his time supporting the club, and his answer was quite impressive.

“The 2006 Grand Final, I was lucky to be standing on the ground holding the banner up as our Eagles came out. It was an amazing feeling hearing the crowd roar and watching the boys go through the banner we had spent weeks preparing.”

Richard continued, “I have since got married and have had a daughter and it rates alongside those life moments for me”.

We hope that being our Member of the Round for our victory over Sydney will contribute towards some of Richard’s cherished West Coast Eagles memories.
