The West Coast Eagles have today been advised by the AFL that as a result of the strict conditions that will be imposed around a planned return to play, AFL players will not be permitted to play in second tier competitions across Australia.

As a result, the West Coast Eagles will not be allowed to field a team in the WAFL if and when that competition begins an abbreviated 2020 season.

“We understand the need for tight protocols around our players and staff circulating in the community and the risks that presents,” General Manager – Football Craig Vozzo said today.

“It is disappointing, but this is a unique situation and we must abide by the strict protocols as directed by our governments, health officials and the AFL.

“Those players not selected for a given match will prepare for AFL opportunities through a well planned training program that our High Performance staff will put together over the course of the season.”
