After reviewing the disappointing loss to Gold Coast on Saturday night, going through the recovery process yesterday, things shifted towards preparation for this week’s challenge against Brisbane at the Gabba.

And another maiden experience was presented with the players going through the first phase of the week at the Gold Coast’s council soccer fields.

Everything is in close proximity to the Royal Pines Resort and these grounds are again adjacent to Metricon Stadium and alongside KDV Sports, a unique facility that houses a gymnasium, a golf driving range and tennis courts.

After a light jog around the rectangular fields – in their groups of eight – the players then did some light skill work, just easing their bodies back into football mode. Saturday night’s encounter with the Suns was the first genuine contest for three months.

Their well-tuned bodies – like those of all players in the AFL – had suffered a little memory loss and have, in the last 24 to 48 hours, awakened some muscles that enjoyed some uncustomary down time.

After a brief low-tempo kick around, much like community players would do for a little touch, they headed to the KDV gymnasium.

From there, it was back to the Royal Pines for a series of meetings – initially a team briefing and then in the various lines.

They will cram in as much as possible before enjoying a day off tomorrow.
